Tattoo Equipment

My tattoo equipment came yesterday (Monday), and I'm super stoked! Basically bought everything through the Micky Sharpz website for convenience (and to match my budget) and it came pretty quick.

In the top picture clockwise from top-left is my power supply (a small travel style power supply), foot pedal and clip cords etc. all bagged up, and my machine, a Micky Sharps Stainless Steel Hybrid.

I'm not entirely sure what a hybrid is but I've gathered it's to do with the frame, as all the hybrid's I've seen have the same sort of frame. I picked this based on it's ability to be used as a liner and shader, the price, and also as it looked quite simple and nice. There are so many machines that have nuts frames with all sorts of fancy designs and I thought like, I don't want a fancy frame to distract me and others from the work I'm supposed to be doing.

As a bonus, I turned up at Pink Ink today to find Leeanne and Ben having set up a little workstation for me to sit and practice tattooing at, so I got to spend a few hours sitting tattooing with my own machine and getting started on learning the process, which I really enjoyed! I was practicing tattooing this weird rubber skin which was alright and gave me a vague idea, I'll try and get some photos of it some time. Hopefully I'll be able to practice on pig skin and then a few willing victims in the future!

Skull flash

Sketched this yesterday while it was quiet at Pink Ink. Skull is a bit off but nothing which isn't fixable I don't think. There's an unedited version on my dA, which I think looks a bit nicer cos the contrast isn't as harsh as on this pic.

Been drawing a canny few skulls lately, as I've been looking at tattoo flash and the black and grey shaded stuff, loving it! Just ordered my tattoo machine and powerpack etc which should arrive this week, just need to get some pig skin and needles etc. and can get some practice in hopefully!

LIFER!

Got my OctoPuss tattoo a few weeks ago (I know my bro will disapprove so I apologise if you're reading this) and I'm chuffed with it! Colours are really bright and it's looking sweet, just need to go back and get some shading done when I can afford it.  Took about 2-3 hours or so by Cal at Trackside in Heaton.

Linework.

Native shirt

Just a reminder that you can still buy my T-shirt from Native Skate Store, I don't get any cash from it but it's cool to see people wearing my shirt!  I made this little banner thing for the blog a while ago but have only just got around to sorting it out and putting it on the site now.

Prof. Hotpoint (and his wishy washy tummy)

Think I'm pretty much finished with this now, I had a few other ideas I wanted to try out with this technique but I think I'll draw something else for it:)  Quite happy with how the textures turned out, you should try it sometime it's ace!

Hallo Dinosaur!

Sketch of a new character I'm working on for a sort of comic style idea I've had, really like his round little happy-head!

Putting the washing out

Experimenting with textures.  For some reason the final image has came out a bit smaller than I'd hoped but I'm hoping it's just the way I've exported it.  Still need to add some more detail but I reckon it's came out alright.

Stories 2

This is another story and picture from my childhood.  The image has faded a bit but check out how all the people look phallic!

I can't actually make out whether I've drawn the monster in the bottom right or whether I've drawn the monster eating someone....

Doodles

Recently I've been buying loads of poscas and paints for some Russian dolls I'm painting, and since the box has been lying around on my desk I've started doodling on it. I haven't really used posca's much but they're really fun for doodling...really!

Stories

Here is the first story from when I was a child!
I really like this story just for the nerd factor, I mean I could have written about anything but I chose to write about my brother playing on his Nintendo. And by Nintendo, I mean NES! About a year later (maybe even that year) my brother gave me his Spectrum for Christmas and I was stoked! I used to love playing that motorcycle game (still not sure of the name) and Ghostbusters on it, awesome.

Laupside demolished

I know the picture is very unrelated, but I really wanted to blog about this. It seems Laupside a skater built skatepark's been demolished recently by the council, check the article over at French's blog. Normally I wouldn't be so fussed as it's not somewhere I've ever been to/cared about, but we've got a something similar in Newcastle in what is known as the wasteland. The wasteland is, as it sounds, a bit of land where there used to be a factory years ago, and over the years people have came and built different things there.
Anyways, the wasteland is allegedly due to be demolished sometime in the next year, so I thought this was relevant.

Spaceman!

Oh yeah! Guess which bit I drew!?!
My mam has been going through a pile of my old school i found in the loft the other day, and when I say old I mean REALLY OLD. There was lots of colouring in books and worksheets and things, but the best things I found (and kept!) are my old story books, they're amazing! None of the stories make much sense and the pictures are rubbish but they're really funny! I really don't know why people don't keep story books their whole lives and write a new story every week or so (and draw a picture!).
Anyways, I'm now debating whether to upload like a whole book in sections now on my blog or just upload a few of the best stories because I really have to share them. Really.

No more CatPaint.co.uk...

...blog.
I'm pretty sure I wrecked this photo opening the back of my camera, but I'm pretty stoked on it all the same.

By no more blog I mean that catpaint.co.uk will no longer be pointing here in a few days, so everyone wishing to continue visiting this site (who normally visit via www.catpaint.co.uk) will have to start visiting via scrawlthere.blogspot.com instead (yes the title is misleading and I will still be blogging:)). Instead CatPaint.co.uk will be directed towards my portfolio website (which you can check out temporarily here). As I've mentioned before anyone following my RSS feed will have to make some changes...as I previously described.

Kite!

I took this photo recently whilst enjoying my time spent not at college. Apart from kite flying I'm spending my time applying for jobseekers' and skating at the moment, while I look for a more permanent job (so please, feel free to offer work!). It's my graduation next week but I doubt I'll be attending as I haven't sorted out gowns et c. yet and it's not really my thing.

Ice Cream cat

Me and Ed've been experimenting with embroidery again, simplifying some of our characters to make little emblems for clothing etc. No idea what we're going to make yet, maybe caps? maybe patches? who knows!

Final Show

Well, my final show for BA (Hons) Creative Practice went as well as could be expected (a bit of a dive), but boozy times were to be had by all! Above is a photo of our main display in our main display....area, albeit a bit desolate without our portfolios etc. on display.

As I mentioned earlier, I've been busy at work sorting out OctoPuss, mine and Ed Tam's little business in cat related doodlings! We've set up a blog over here where you can see some of our work, although it was best to see it in person as images don't really do it justice! Our web store is also up at OctoPuss.biz and features an awesome Octopus themed background by Lynsey Gray, which is worth visiting the site for alone! Be sure to check out some of our work and maybe part with some dollar for a good cause (haha).

Oh and for those who're curious, I've passed my course and should have my degree in a few weeks:)

Mugs!

Just a bit of promotional stuff for my new 'OctoPuss' web store!

If I haven't filled you in, myself and Ed Tam (he draws cats in costumes) are starting our own little business doing freelance animation/illustration whilst also producing and selling products with our designs on them via a web store.

Anyhows I just got these mugs made and they look amazing! They're slightly different to the ones we will be selling in our store although they are an excellent indicator of what the mugs will look like and have turned out much better than I imagined (the photo doesn't do them justice).

We plan on launching the web store tomorrow with our final show so I'll post a link up on here tomorrow with the details:)
