LIFER!

Got my OctoPuss tattoo a few weeks ago (I know my bro will disapprove so I apologise if you're reading this) and I'm chuffed with it! Colours are really bright and it's looking sweet, just need to go back and get some shading done when I can afford it.  Took about 2-3 hours or so by Cal at Trackside in Heaton.

Linework.

Native shirt

Just a reminder that you can still buy my T-shirt from Native Skate Store, I don't get any cash from it but it's cool to see people wearing my shirt!  I made this little banner thing for the blog a while ago but have only just got around to sorting it out and putting it on the site now.

Prof. Hotpoint (and his wishy washy tummy)

Think I'm pretty much finished with this now, I had a few other ideas I wanted to try out with this technique but I think I'll draw something else for it:)  Quite happy with how the textures turned out, you should try it sometime it's ace!

Hallo Dinosaur!

Sketch of a new character I'm working on for a sort of comic style idea I've had, really like his round little happy-head!

Putting the washing out

Experimenting with textures.  For some reason the final image has came out a bit smaller than I'd hoped but I'm hoping it's just the way I've exported it.  Still need to add some more detail but I reckon it's came out alright.

Stories 2

This is another story and picture from my childhood.  The image has faded a bit but check out how all the people look phallic!

I can't actually make out whether I've drawn the monster in the bottom right or whether I've drawn the monster eating someone....

Doodles

Recently I've been buying loads of poscas and paints for some Russian dolls I'm painting, and since the box has been lying around on my desk I've started doodling on it. I haven't really used posca's much but they're really fun for doodling...really!

Stories

Here is the first story from when I was a child!
I really like this story just for the nerd factor, I mean I could have written about anything but I chose to write about my brother playing on his Nintendo. And by Nintendo, I mean NES! About a year later (maybe even that year) my brother gave me his Spectrum for Christmas and I was stoked! I used to love playing that motorcycle game (still not sure of the name) and Ghostbusters on it, awesome.

Laupside demolished

I know the picture is very unrelated, but I really wanted to blog about this. It seems Laupside a skater built skatepark's been demolished recently by the council, check the article over at French's blog. Normally I wouldn't be so fussed as it's not somewhere I've ever been to/cared about, but we've got a something similar in Newcastle in what is known as the wasteland. The wasteland is, as it sounds, a bit of land where there used to be a factory years ago, and over the years people have came and built different things there.
Anyways, the wasteland is allegedly due to be demolished sometime in the next year, so I thought this was relevant.

Spaceman!

Oh yeah! Guess which bit I drew!?!
My mam has been going through a pile of my old school i found in the loft the other day, and when I say old I mean REALLY OLD. There was lots of colouring in books and worksheets and things, but the best things I found (and kept!) are my old story books, they're amazing! None of the stories make much sense and the pictures are rubbish but they're really funny! I really don't know why people don't keep story books their whole lives and write a new story every week or so (and draw a picture!).
Anyways, I'm now debating whether to upload like a whole book in sections now on my blog or just upload a few of the best stories because I really have to share them. Really.

No more CatPaint.co.uk...

...blog.
I'm pretty sure I wrecked this photo opening the back of my camera, but I'm pretty stoked on it all the same.

By no more blog I mean that catpaint.co.uk will no longer be pointing here in a few days, so everyone wishing to continue visiting this site (who normally visit via www.catpaint.co.uk) will have to start visiting via scrawlthere.blogspot.com instead (yes the title is misleading and I will still be blogging:)). Instead CatPaint.co.uk will be directed towards my portfolio website (which you can check out temporarily here). As I've mentioned before anyone following my RSS feed will have to make some changes...as I previously described.

Kite!

I took this photo recently whilst enjoying my time spent not at college. Apart from kite flying I'm spending my time applying for jobseekers' and skating at the moment, while I look for a more permanent job (so please, feel free to offer work!). It's my graduation next week but I doubt I'll be attending as I haven't sorted out gowns et c. yet and it's not really my thing.

Ice Cream cat

Me and Ed've been experimenting with embroidery again, simplifying some of our characters to make little emblems for clothing etc. No idea what we're going to make yet, maybe caps? maybe patches? who knows!

Final Show

Well, my final show for BA (Hons) Creative Practice went as well as could be expected (a bit of a dive), but boozy times were to be had by all! Above is a photo of our main display in our main display....area, albeit a bit desolate without our portfolios etc. on display.

As I mentioned earlier, I've been busy at work sorting out OctoPuss, mine and Ed Tam's little business in cat related doodlings! We've set up a blog over here where you can see some of our work, although it was best to see it in person as images don't really do it justice! Our web store is also up at OctoPuss.biz and features an awesome Octopus themed background by Lynsey Gray, which is worth visiting the site for alone! Be sure to check out some of our work and maybe part with some dollar for a good cause (haha).

Oh and for those who're curious, I've passed my course and should have my degree in a few weeks:)

Mugs!

Just a bit of promotional stuff for my new 'OctoPuss' web store!

If I haven't filled you in, myself and Ed Tam (he draws cats in costumes) are starting our own little business doing freelance animation/illustration whilst also producing and selling products with our designs on them via a web store.

Anyhows I just got these mugs made and they look amazing! They're slightly different to the ones we will be selling in our store although they are an excellent indicator of what the mugs will look like and have turned out much better than I imagined (the photo doesn't do them justice).

We plan on launching the web store tomorrow with our final show so I'll post a link up on here tomorrow with the details:)

HE Final Show

Nom nom nom nom nom! I'm canny shattered atm, had so much to do this week and atm I'm currently designing mugs and preparing the OctoPuss web store to go live on Monday, hectic!

So it's my BA (Hons) Final Show this Monday coming, for anyone who wants to visit. It's on from 6-9pm at Blandford Square in Newcastle and has free booze so check it out, give me a comment or email or text or phone or....whatever if you want more details. I made a facebook group for those who do that.

I'm really lost for words now, I've had to stop myself from posting things we're going to have on show so I've had very little worth posting...Basically me and Ed have a quite big OctoPuss display going up at Blandford Square, and for anyone in Mandela building at Newcastle College we might be having another smaller display in the Illustration and Animation department so check it out. I'll have photos of the exhibit and news on the OctoPuss store posted on Monday/Tuesday, then maybe more regular posts!

A Sneak Peek...

At something I'm currently slaving over! I've been working on lots lately (including loads of written work for my course!) but I haven't really wanted to post anything as it's all for my final show at college, and I don't want everyone to have seen my work before it goes on display so it's been kept under my hat a bit. Hopefully this will all pay off when the work goes on display!

If anyone wants to attend my final show feel free, it's on the 7th June in Newcastle (I'll find out exactly where by the end of the week, promise) and is basically a show of work on display by students on my course, BA (Hons) Creative Practice. I have no idea what everyone else will have on display, but I can guarantee mine and Ed's will be class!

And if you don't know...

...now you know...
I found this blog when looking for where the wild things are pictures. It's supposedly book reviews or something but whoever created it seems to pretty much take high quality photos of pretty much every page, so you can read the whole book! Anyhows you can read where the wild things are there, which I thought was pretty cool.

Changes to RSS feed

I've come to an important realisation for anyone who keeps up to date with Scrawl There... via RSS feed. Basically catpaint.co.uk will not be pointing to my blog in the near future, therefore it's possible the current RSS feed will no longer work.
To avoid any problems I recommend you scrap using your current RSS feed if it has catpaint.co.uk in the url and instead use this one, as it is the same feed but will continue working when I fiddle around with the site.
I appreciate this will mean absolute bollocks to a lot of people but I felt it necessary to warn of just incase.

Robocat 3

I love it when things come together so quickly! Laser etching is looking awesome!

Robocat 2

This is possibly the greatest thing I have ever made.

Robocat

just a quick blog while I finish compositing mine and ed's final show bits

Friday, 16 April 2010

I have so much...

...shit up my sleeves I can't believe it! I've got so much going on atm, I really can't wait to finish my course and start doing *fun* things.
Anyhows, this is a test for something towards my final show...cat whale! I've got to have two A2 pieces ready to laser etch by Monday so I'm trying to keep it simple but nice.

Oh and those stickers I made didn't make it to Berlin, so if anyone wants any just let me know, I still need to lacquer them but it'll be done soon.

:O

The single most amazing find I made this week!

What I really wanted to post is this image Ed drew for OctoPuss as it is AWESOME! My next tattoo.

I think we're going to be making patches out of it, I'm not sure but Ed's been embroidering it the past week and experimenting so we'll see what happens.

The new CatPaint.co.uk

The new CatPaint website is coming along nicely, I have to say. It's one of my first major creations in Flash (if not one of my first then one of my first in a long time) and I've had to learn a lot of new techniques to make it do the things I want so I'm pretty happy so far. I've not really wanted to post any screenshots or anything as I want to keep everything under wraps until I'm done but I figured most people have seen this cat head and rainbow anyway at college so I may as well post it.

Bush

I started drawing this bush the other day for some work I'm doing, not realizing how long it would actually take - this is only about 1 fifth of the bush and it took about half an hour?
If anyone can think of fun things to draw in it that would be awesome!
Potato crying out for sweet mercy.

Waterfall

Yeah this was like a 5 minute sketch/colour up so it looks a bit naff. Was gonna be a design for this blog but I don't think it'd really work.

Good News

You should be able to buy my shirt at Native soon. This is the first t-shirt design I've done so I'm stoked on this, just came in yesterday in white and kelly green and looks pretty nice. I assume it'll be on the website soon (around about here?) and it will most likely be on sale in store now so check it out.
For those who don't know, Native's my local skate shop in Newcastle, it runs a pretty tight ship and has a pretty good team if you wanna check it out.

Bad News

Since I really want to play that new Batman Arkham Asylum game I've decided to draw a picture of Batman so that maybe the people who made said game (I don't...really know who that is) would see my picture and be like "shit that's awesome here is a free game of Batman" since my blog's dead popular now. I've also drawn him with Nike's on and a skateboard because I would like them also.

Anyhows the bad news. Tbh it's not really bad news at all, in any way shape or form as pretty much nothing will change. It is to me bad news however as I have decided to give up on catching up with my 365 drawings, or producing a drawing a day. I'm too far behind now and not even doodling enough to produce enough drawings and it's just annoying me titling each post as a date from the past, and it's no doubt confusing also. So yeah, end of a dream for now. I will continue to post in the same format however, with an image and a small amount of text as I really like posting things this way - it's like an ADD blog - and I may in the future start another drawing a day thing but for now I'm uncertain.

So in conclusion, no more titling blog posts as dates and everything will continue on as normal, posting snippets of what I'm upto or find interesting and doodles I've done. Batman.

Wednesday, 3 March 2010

I believe there's a reason I don't draw comics...

I've got something pretty cool to post about tomorrow, maybe a bit of good news/bad news I'm not sure but we'll see.

Sunday, 28 February 2010

Sunday 22nd November 2009

Page of doodles from my sketchbook, some names given to faces and new characters, think I might start doodling comics:) Born to fight dinosaurs and orange pussycat are side projects of mine, one of which should be starting up pretty soon - I'll keep you posted8-|

Just want to link to this webcomic too as it's pretty awesome, it's called My Cardboard Life and centers around a few characters cut out of cardboard. It's not groundbreaking humour or anything but the style's really nice, cardboard cut-outs etc.

Tuesday 17th November 2009

Just uploaded this video I made donks ago while studying ND Multimedia, tis an advertisement for the commercial aspects of the north-east. Pretty funny.

Monday 16th November 2009

Still very much a work in progress, but I thought I'd post a little update. I say this a lot, but I plan on just posting batches of posts at a time the next few days, to help me catch up to the current date, then I will most likely just start posting infrequently (as I currently am...*sigh*).

Just thought I'd take this opportunity also to remind you that you can be notified when my blog is updated by either subscribing to my rss feed (about rss feeds - for those who are unfamiliar) or by following via Google Friend Connect by scrolling down and clicking the 'Follow' link under the title 'followers'.

Also I think everyone should check out this game I just discovered today called Machinarium, it's a point-and-click game with robots and the illustrations are awesome, pretty simiar to the concept art for Howl's Moving Castle. Check it.

Sunday 15th November 2009

Drew this at college the other day, first thing I've drawn in ages! Still sick of this being behind on the blog date-wise, think I may give up catching up I'm not sure.
Anyhows, I drew up this earlier post for Mark's birthday last week, although I forgot to get a picture, looked pretty good tho I reckon. Just been doing some design stuff which I'll post soon - looking forward to getting back into the swing of things. On that note I'll leave you with a frame from Sam and Max which pretty much sums up Jonny's view of the Metro Centre.
Peace bitches.
